Men's Foundation Collection

Comfort at its core

We believe the foundation of any good piece of cycling kit is comfort. So we’ve created a collection that puts comfort at its core. The culmination of almost three years of research and development, this collection has become a trusted go-to for multi day endurance athletes and casual cafe spinners alike. Expertly tailored to be comfortably close fitting, these cycling wardrobe staples really are the perfect all-rounders.

Backed by research and development

The focus of our research and development was to identify the key areas where quality makes the biggest difference to a rider’s comfort, so that we could pour our time and investment into them, and strip away any other unnecessary bits that can often drive up cost needlessly. Through our research we identified three key components that can make or break your comfort: the fabric, the fit and the chamois pad. So, we carefully considered each in turn.
 The result
  • High-quality technical fabrics that have been sourced, collectively ridden over thousands of kilometres by our trusted community of kit testers, and selected based on their outstanding comfort and technical abilities.
  • Carefully-considered tailoring to create functional pieces that fit fantastically and are cut for a riding position.
  • Finished with our custom men’s Foundation chamois pad designed in collaboration with the world’s best pad manufacturer, Cytech Elastic Interface, with outstanding endurance-focused fabric technology designed to provide lasting saddle comfort.
This is the Foundation Collection.

Foundation Jersey

If you like your kit to fit nice and tight without any excess bagginess, then this is the jersey for you. Its sleeve style, shortened zip length and tapered collar mean it'll fit great when you’re bent over in a riding position. And the fabric not only looks and feels amazing, it’s fantastically technical too.
We’ve done thousands of kilometres of ride testing with different jersey fabrics over the years, and these are some of the best we’ve come across. Breathable, lightweight, durable and with just the right amount of stretch - the back panel even has a mesh-like quality, with micro holes that give a little extra breathability on warmer days. We also offer a long sleeve version ideal for spring and autumn riding.
What our customers say
"I’ve ridden in Foundation Jerseys across Australia, Vietnam and the American desert, washing them in sinks for 30 days in a row and stuffing them in bike bags - they can definitely take a beating! They’re cut properly so the pockets don't sag, they feel great on and there’s nice bold colour choices. The arms stay in place without the need for grippers, too.

"It’s just a simple, well designed piece of kit that’s not over-engineered, and that's why it works."

Francis Cade: Former elite cyclist, bike adventurer and Attacus ambassador

Foundation Bib Shorts

We’ve honed every aspect of the Foundation Bib Shorts to deliver lasting comfort. They’re made with a premium technical material that offers just the right amount of stretch and compressive support. And the Foundation chamois pad is designed to provide long-lasting pelvic support and relieve common saddle pressure points which can cause discomfort - especially on longer rides.

What our customers say

"I've been using the Foundation Bib Shorts for two years now, and have ridden around 24,000 miles in them in that time.

"Leading up to competing in the Transatlantic Way Race, I needed a pair of shorts that not only provided all-day comfort, but could withstand the abuse multi-day racing would throw at them. Having trained in these shorts prior to the race, I wasn't surprised that I didn't suffer a single issue during the seven days’ racing. But what did surprise me was how immaculate they looked afterwards. I took two pairs away with me, but left one pair in my bag the whole time. Two years later, I still wear the pair I raced in - albeit after numerous washes!

"The fit is particularly fantastic. It should be a staple when you buy a pair of bib shorts, however I've had numerous pairs from other brands that just don't fit well and can be uncomfortable. Probably the biggest compliment I can give the Foundation shorts is that once on, I never have to think about them.

"I'm currently planning my approach to the Transcontinental Race, and I take massive comfort knowing that I don't need to think about my core kit in any detail other than the colour combination I'm going to wear!"

The Foundation Chamois Pad
Never underestimate the importance of a good chamois. It could literally make or break your ride.
At Attacus, we’ve always believed that the key to any good piece of cycling clothing is one that feels as comfortable and supportive after 24 hours as it does after just one. It’s why all of our Foundation bib shorts are fitted with our custom men's Foundation chamois pads - a top of the range endurance-focused pad developed to deliver all-day support.
Designed in collaboration with one of the world’s leading chamois manufacturers, Cytech Elastic Interface, this pad is the culmination of months of research and testing. Designed to relieve common pelvic pressure points which we identified can cause discomfort on longer rides, the pad is constructed from fine layers of high density foam which provide lasting cushioned support. It’s what makes the shorts perfect for epic adventures, as well as shorter days on the road. Meanwhile its neutral, single width not only offers a more anatomical fit, but makes it compatible with virtually any saddle.
It's this commitment to comfort that means our shorts and tights are now trusted by athletes who have taken on some of the world's toughest tests of endurance - from the Transcontinental and Silk Road Mountain Races to Double Everesting and National 24-Hour Time Trialling.
Made from recycled materials, this eco-friendly pad is also woven together with yarns that have antibacterial properties, providing better protection for multi day activities. It’s even perforated to speed drying times.
Seriously, it’s a dream to sit on.

Foundation Vest

Clothing keeps us warm by trapping warm air next to our skin. But when you’re on a bike travelling at speed, the force from any cold air or wind can obliterate that warmth you’ve built up. It’s why a reliable, thin, packable windproof layer is such a useful piece of kit to have of your cycling armour.

“Whether you call it a vest or a gilet, this packable windproof layer is a godsend for spring and autumn when temperatures can fluctuate from hour to hour. The front is made with a lightweight, windproof fabric which contains a membrane barrier that repels cold air and water, while allowing warm air to continue circulating around your core. The back is made of a lightweight stretch mesh which helps with pocket access as well as ventilation. It’s a great piece of kit to stick in your jersey pocket and call on when the temperature drops.”

Jimmi Nicholls, Co-Founder and Product Developer at Attacus

"I've been using an Attacus Windproof Vest for around 3 years now, having bought the original Dagger Vest in 2017.

It's the perfect compliment to already outstanding kit - very light and easily packed, comfortable but most importantly, warm and excellent at taking the sting out of a cold breeze or descent. The especially like the latest addition of the yellow windproof vest as it's highly visible; a real plus point for me given the amount of time I spend on the road."

Foundation Base Layer

The newest addition to our Foundation range, our Foundation Base Layer is a super-lightweight, highly sweat wicking summer layer is perfectly designed to keep you cool on warmer days.
“Made from a lightweight, stretchy mesh that draws excess moisture away from the skin and aids heat regulation, this lightweight base layer is perfect for mild and warm weather riding. It's been tailored to be close fitting, with minimal seams, so that it feels both comfortable and discreet under your jersey. The length on this base layer has also been specifically cut to sit at the same height as our jerseys, in order to avoid visible bunching that can often happen when your base layer is tucked into bib shorts.”
Emily Childs, Managing Director and Product Developer at Attacus
